EATING OUT

USEFUL INFO - EATING OUT

Malawi offers a wide variety of food and drink. The local staple diet is Maize which is grinded down into Maize flour. The maize flour is then mixed with water and boiled down into a pulp; this is known as Nsima, eaten with vegetables, chicken, fish, meat which again are cooked in different ways and eaten with your hands (it’s easier to handle but you don’t have to).

Most restaurants offer the local delicacies, however if you’re looking for a curry, Chinese, Italian, fish and chips, steak, ribs, pizza, burgers or fine dining you can be assured to find it in Malawi. When on the streets try and avoid buying food from the streets as doing so can sometimes be hazardous. If unsure where to go speak to your tour operator or management where you are accommodated for further advice and guidance, taxis are normally available to and from dining within main cities (Lilongwe, Blantyre, Zomba, Mzuzu).

Hotels, lodges and resorts in Malawi offer fine dining including buffets, private dining or you can choose to eat by the pool side or veranda whilst basking in the sun. A must try in Malawi is the famous Chambo fish and there’s no better place to try it than when you visit Lake Malawi.
