Balaka is a district in the Southern Region of Malawi. The capital is Balaka. The district covers an area of 2,193 km.² and has a population of 253,098.
Balaka is situated next to Ntcheu within the Southern Region. It is a small market town lying along the M8 south of Blantyre. Balaka is a great place to see paper being made and textiles dyed to be created into clothes. There is also a big Catholic Church as well as a print and publication company, within the town itself there is a café, accommodation and a variety of shops and groceries.
